A few days ago, I followed up a comment by Maureen Manson about the Engelandvaarders, whom I mentioned when I visited Sizewell beach.
Maureen’s father, Constable James McGuire, was stationed at Aldringham/Thorpeness during the war and was called to deal with the incident when “a collapsible rubber canoe 15 feet x 3 feet, containing 2 Dutchmen, came ashore on the beach at Thorpeness”. She sent me some scans of the original police reports, as well as some photos of her father.
My people were from Doggerland and we sure miss it. We would love to live there again and be home. We had a social-democracy and no one went without. We shared all-equally-there wasn’t any rich or poor-we knew how to share and help each other-we worshipped the earth and had no sky-gods-we did not pollute-we did not waste-we did not kill-except to feed ourselves-we only took what we needed-we knew that everything on mother earth was equal. Most importantly -we knew how to laugh and enjoy life-
